Harold Harper has deep roots in the Region. He was born and raised in Valparaiso, Indiana, and graduated from Valparaiso High School and Valparaiso University School of Law. With his wife of over thirty-years, Lisa, he also raised their three children in Valparaiso.

Harold received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Indiana University, where he was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, the Honor Society for Accredited Collegiate Schools of Business. He graduated with High Distinction. 

Harold then obtained his Juris Doctor from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1997, where he graduated in the top quartile of his class. 

Harold is admitted to practice law before the Indiana Supreme Court as well as the United States District Courts, Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago, Illinois. He is a member of the American Association for Justice, the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and is a sustaining member of the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association. 

Harold is Managing Partner at Harper and Harper, which he co-founded with his father, Robert Harper. His areas of practice include personal injury and wrongful death, including auto accidents, dog bites, premise liability claims and medical malpractice cases.  

Mr. Harper has over twenty-five years of first-chair trial and litigation experience. He’s briefed and argued hundreds of contested motions, including motions for summary judgment, protective orders, gag orders, and motions to compel. He’s deposed hundreds of witnesses and parties; and has mediated well over one hundred civil claims.  

Harold is an avid fisherman. His favorite fishing experiences have been angling for Halibut, King Salmon, and Ling Cod off Raspberry Island in the Kodiak Island Archipelago.  

Harold is also fascinated with computer software. On his 'bucket list' was always to learn how to program. Consequently, he applied and was accepted into a Ruby on Rails web development program and has been developing with Rails and Javascript ever since. 

Music is an important part of Harold’s life as well. He is a drummer, having studied at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago, Illinois and the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts.  

In addition to practicing law at Harper and Harper, Mr. Harper represents the Porter County Council, where he oversees all legal matters for Porter County Government's fiscal body, which operates with a budget of approximately $43,000,000.00. 

Harold also represents the Porter County Council before the Board of Trustees of the Porter County Government Nonprofit Charitable Foundation, a $189,506,000.00 foundation/tax-exempt organization established for the benefit of Porter County residents/taxpayers. 

Lastly, Harold spends a significant amount of time representing Porter County indigent youths charged with delinquent acts (for all felony, misdemeanor and status offenses), including in detention proceedings, initial and modification hearings and fact-findings (bench trials).
